Major home remodels in the Valley
When walls move and plumbing gets rerouted, you need one licensed builder running the whole job. Mark Kelso plans the work, pulls the permits and manages the crew, start to finish.
What makes a remodel major
Paint and fixtures are a refresh. A major remodel changes how the house works. Walls move, plumbing and electrical get rerouted, and more than one room is open at a time. That is a different class of job, and it needs a licensed general contractor, not a handyman with a tile saw.
We run the whole thing under one roof. One contract, one schedule, one builder who answers the phone.
- Structural changes with engineering and permits
- Kitchen, bath and whole home scopes
- Licensed, bonded and insured: AZ ROC #318269, #243160
- One crew and one point of contact, start to finish
Pick a room. See what we handle.
Four rooms carry most major remodels. Tap through for what the work includes and the decisions we make together before demo.
Kitchens
The kitchen is the most layered room in the house. Cabinets, counters, gas, water, venting and lighting all land in the same footprint, so sequencing decides whether the job runs six weeks or six months.
- Layout changes, islands and wall removals
- Cabinets, counters and backsplash
- Electrical, gas and venting for appliances
- Plumbing moves and new fixtures
Typical decisions we walk you through
Baths
Baths are small rooms with zero tolerance for shortcuts. Waterproofing and slope decide whether a shower lasts, so we get the wet work right before anything pretty goes on the wall.
- Walk-in showers, tubs and full reconfigurations
- Tile, waterproofing and proper slopes
- Vanities, counters and storage
- Ventilation and in-wall plumbing updates
Typical decisions we walk you through
Primary suites
A suite remodel is really three jobs, bedroom, closet and bath, tied together so they read as one calm space instead of three separate projects.
- Closet buildouts and built-in storage
- Bedroom and bath opened into one suite
- New windows and natural light
- Flooring, paint and trim throughout
Typical decisions we walk you through
Living spaces
Most Valley floor plans want to open up. That usually means a bearing wall, which means a beam, which means engineering. We handle all three and pull the permit that proves it.
- Wall removals with engineered beams
- Fireplace rework and built-ins
- Bigger openings to the patio
- Continuous flooring through the main rooms
Typical decisions we walk you through
What we fix while the walls are open
Demo is the one chance to correct what you cannot see. Tap the pins to see what gets handled before a sheet of drywall goes back up.
1Straight, solid framing
Bowed studs get sistered, headers get sized for new openings, and anything a past remodel butchered gets rebuilt. Drywall only goes over framing we would put our name on.
2Wiring brought up to code
Older Valley homes often carry undersized panels and tired wiring. With the walls open we add circuits, fix junctions and set the house up for today's kitchen loads.
3Plumbing done once, done right
Supply lines, drains and vents get rerouted for the new layout and pressure tested before they disappear. Nobody wants to open a brand new wall.
4Insulation for Arizona heat
Before drywall closes, we insulate and air seal. In a Valley summer that is the difference between a room you use and a room you avoid from June to September.
Every remodel has a loud, dusty middle
Week three will not look like a brochure, and we will not pretend otherwise. What matters: the mess is contained, the schedule is real, and the finish is worth it. Drag the handle.
Two real stages of remodel work, honestly labeled. The left side is mid demolition with surfaces protected. The right is a finished kitchen. Different rooms; we do not fake befores.
Finishes worth opening walls for
The last five percent of a remodel is what you touch every day. We shop it with you and install it like we own it. Tap any tile for a closer look.
How a remodel runs
Four phases, each with its own checkpoint. You always know what is happening this week and what happens next.
Walk & scope
Mark walks your home, measures, and writes a scope in plain English with a real number attached. Free, in person.
Design & selections
Layouts, drawings and finish selections get locked before demo. Decisions made early are the cheap kind.
Demo & rough trades
Containment goes up, then structure, plumbing, electrical and inspections, in the right order.
Finish & punch list
Surfaces, fixtures and paint, then a walkthrough with a list. We are done when the list is.
Yes, you can live there while we work
Most families stay home through a remodel, and we plan for it. Dust barriers and floor protection go up first, work zones get sealed off from living zones, and the crew leaves a swept site every evening. You know each week what is happening the next.
We also plan around the Arizona calendar. Summer heat and monsoon season, roughly mid June through September, are real factors for any work that opens the house to the outside, so we sequence those stages with the weather in mind.
- Dust walls and sealed work zones
- Floor and furniture protection from day one
- A working kitchen or bath kept live when the scope allows
- Swept site and secured openings every evening
If a scope would make the house unlivable for a stretch, we tell you before we start, not after demo. Straight answers are part of the service.
